BATON ROUGE – Police say a man used a pizza box to rob a woman on Wilshire Drive in Baton Rouge Tuesday.
John Ryan Oneal Sr. was charged with first-degree robbery, aggravated flight from an officer and resisting and officer. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Tuesday.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the victim told Baton Rouge Police that a white sedan drove to her home and the driver approached her and her daughter Tuesday. He then shoved a pizza box at her and grabbed her purse off her shoulder.
The victim said she let go of the purse after the attacker said he had a gun and motioned as if he was pulling a weapon from his waistband. The attacker then returned to his car and fled the scene.
Shortly after the crime, officers saw a vehicle matching the description driving on South Eugene Street. The officer tried to stop the sedan but it fled at a high speed.
Arrest documents say the chase ended after the driver made a turn onto Hearthstone Drive, “carelessly drove into a driveway,” and briefly fled on foot. Oneal was captured in the home’s backyard.
Documents say Oneal denied the victim’s claim and refused to identify himself. Police note that he was wearing the same clothes and driving the same car initially described by the victim.
The victim later identified Oneal as her attacker after viewing a stand and show lineup.
