A Chinese chemical company is set to build a billion-dollar chemical plant in Saint James Parish.
Officials say the facility to be built by Wanhua Chemical Group will create 170 direct jobs and more than 900 indirect jobs. Louisiana agreed to give the company several tax exemptions worth more than $4 million.
The new factory will manufacture MDI, which is a chemical ingredient in polyurethane foams for refrigeration insulation, among other uses.
