Spouses of Some La. Law Enforcement Officers Could Get Better Benefits

Spouses of Louisiana law enforcement officers violently killed in the line of duty may soon get better survivor benefits.

In April, Louisiana Legislators will consider a bill to pay the surviving spouse 100 percent of the slain officer's salary until the spouse dies.  If there's no spouse, the officers children would get the pay until they turn 18.

The law would only be valid for officers who became members of the State Police Retirement System before 2011.
