U.S. Attorney Walt Green Announces Resignation

U.S. Attorney Walt Green announced Monday he has handed in his resignation, as recently requested by U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions of all U.S. attorneys. Green's resignation is effective as of last Friday.

“I wish to thank my incredible staff and law enforcement family for all their support over the years as I respectfully submit my resignation as United States Attorney," Green said. "With over twenty-seven years as a United States Marine and twenty years as a member of the Department of Justice, I will treasure all my memories of public service to this great nation.”

Over the weekend, East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore wrote a letter of support for Green to President Trump and urged him not to accept his resignation.

"He is a leader, one of the best and brightest of our times, who we all desire, regardless of our own individual political ideologies, to see remain as our United States Attorney," Moore's letter concluded.

The letter was sent "on behalf and with the unanimous approval of every major law enforcement official within the jurisdiction of the United States Middle District".
