BATON ROUGE (WBRZ) – Baton Rouge police arrested two Uber drivers on drunken driving charges Friday morning.
One had a passenger with him at the time, police said.
That driver, Albert Defrances, was booked with second-offense DWI, drinking in a motor vehicle and improper lane usage, police said.
His blood-alcohol test registered 0.146. A measurement of 0.08 is considered presumptive evidence of drunken driving.
Police said the passenger was able to find another ride after DeFrances, 45, was arrested.
Further details of the arrest were not immediately available.
“Uber has a zero tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol for drivers using the app," Uber spokesperson Jodi Page said. "Upon learning of these arrest, both driver’s access to the app was banned.”
Page said in order to drive for Uber, drivers must not have a DWI conviction in the previous seven years.
The other driver, Craig Shields Jr., was pulled over near East Boyd Drive early Friday after an officer spotted him speeding and driving erratically. He registered 0.148 in a breath-alcohol test. Police say he was on call to take Uber passengers at the time.
