Evacuation Order Lifted After Pipeline Explosion In St. Charles Parish

People living in the Paradis community of St. Charles Parish are being allowed back into their homes after they were evacuated following an explosion at a Phillips 66 pipeline station last night.

The Saint Charles Parish Sheriff's Office says the pipeline caught fire last night near Old Spanish Trail. The pipeline is close to the Williams-Discovery natural gas plant.

As of 10 a.m. Friday, the company has confirmed six people were working at the site at the time of the fire: 3 Phillips 66 workers and 3 contract workers.

Two of the contract workers were injured and taken to area hospitals for treatment. One worker was released. One Phillips 66 worker remains unaccounted for.

The fire continues to burn, and the cause of the fire may not be determined until after the flames have burned themselves out.

Ongoing air monitoring shows no health impacts to the surrounding area.
