As recovery efforts continue in Louisiana, many local and national organizations have stepped-up to assist flood survivors. One such agency is the Internal Revenue Service.
The IRS has announced that taxpayers, business owners, and select others living or conducting business in a parish designated for FEMA Individual Assistance may qualify for tax relief eg extended deadlines, waived penalties and expedited processing of requests.
With tax season approaching, FEMA would like to remind disaster survivors that federal disaster assistance funds are not considered taxable income for either IRS or Social Security purposes.
