Governor Edwards Backing Cutting School Funding

Governor Edwards is backing a plan that will cut basic funding increases to the state's public schools.

News of the cuts came to light Tuesday after a state education meeting yesterday in Baton Rouge. An ongoing state budget shortfall is forcing the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to scrap a one-percent annual increase in per pupil funding for the 2018 fiscal year that starts July 1st.

The state's proposed 2018 budget proposal is planned to go before the Legislature in April.
