Budget Crisis: La. Republicans Considering Spending Cuts And Tax Hikes

A huge gap could bring both parties closer together.

House Republicans in Baton Rouge are considering offering spending cuts and tax hikes to help close a $300 million budget deficit. Democrats had criticized Republicans last year for not offering specifics for closing the gap.

Lake Charles Republican Rep. Stephen Dwight tells The Advocate one proposal could be to cover more services with a sales tax.
