The East Baton Rouge Parish Metro Council will vote today on whether to increase the fines for businesses caught selling alcohol to minors.
City leaders say almost half of the businesses with liquor licenses in the parish violate the ordinance and sell alcohol to people under age 21.
Metro Councilman Dwight Hudson hopes to provide the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board with more flexibility on enforcement by raising the fines.
If the council votes to increase the fines, they would take effect immediately.
