The East Baton Rouge Parish Public School System says kids can now opt out of riding the school bus.
The opt-out program starts in the upcoming school year.
The idea is to streamline the school system's bus service with fewer buses on the road, shorter travel times, and more accurate routes.
Students who opt out will still be able to ride the bus for school activities such as field trips and sporting events. Families who opt out can change their minds about it later.
