A new 300-foot communication tower is now under construction in Zachary.
The project is intended to improve communication between state agencies and first responders, leading to better response times.
The East Baton Rouge 911 Communications District says the new tower will fill the gaps in parts of the parish where coverage isn't the best.
The 911 fee on residents' cell phone bills is funding the $2 million project.
The tower is expected to be up and running by this fall.
