A new Acting U.S. Attorney is now in place in the Middle District of Louisiana.
The Justice Department says April Leon will take the position following the departure of Ronald Gathe Jr., who had served since 2021.
Leon's appointment comes after President Donald Trump's order removing all U.S. attorneys appointed during the Biden administration.
Leon received her law degree from Southern University Law Center and prosecuted her first case while still in law school.
The middle district covers nine Baton Rouge area parishes.
