Eight fallen Louisiana law enforcement officers will be honored today with the Louisiana Law Enforcement Medal of Honor.
The Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement says the medal was created in 1997 to recognize officers who died in the line of duty.
The eight men and women and one K-9 who made the ultimate sacrifice in 2023 are from the police departments of New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Ville Platte, Denham Springs, and St. Francisville, and the sheriff's departments of St. Tammany and Lafourche Parishes.
Today's ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. the Old State Capitol in Baton Rouge.
