The Greater Baton Rouge State Fair is awarding scholarships to 49 Louisiana high school students for their excellence in volunteering.
The fair honored the students on Sunday by awarding them $500 each to help them get started down a path to a career. The nearly $25,000 was a record day for the fair's high school volunteer program.
Chairman Cliff Barton says the fair's various grant programs have given away nearly $5 million since 1987.
