Governor Jeff Landry's tax overhaul is being discussed in the House Ways and Means Committee.

Revenue Secretary Richard Nelson outlined plans on Tuesday to make teacher pay raises permanent by using $2 billion in savings from paying down teacher retirement debt.

The proposal also includes lowering corporate and individual tax rates and making the 0.45 percent state sales tax permanent.

Lawmakers are expected to review the draft legislation ahead of a potential special session.
