Helene Now A Hurricane, Heading Towards Florida

Helene is now a hurricane as it heads towards Florida.

The storm is expected to bring life threatening storm surge, damaging winds and floods to much of Florida and the southeastern U.S.

Forecasters say Helene could make landfall in Florida's Big Bend region as a Category 3 hurricane tomorrow evening as it intensifies over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

This will be the fourth hurricane to make landfall in the U.S. this year.

The National Weather Service Office in Slidell says impacts to Louisiana will be minimal, mainly in the form of hazardous marine conditions from large swell and waves along with gale-force wind gusts in parts of Gulf waters Wednesday night through Thursday night.
