First responders who own homes in East Baton Rouge Parish now have a larger homestead exemption.
The Metro Council on Wednesday approved an additional $25,000 in property tax exemptions for police, firefighters, and EMS. That's on top of the $75,000 tax exemption extended to all Louisiana homeowners.
Jake Morgan, president of the Baton Rouge firefighters' union, says it only adds up to about $300 a year in tax breaks for each first responder, but every little bit helps.
