A famous destroyer from World War II is now in dry dock in Houma for an $11 million restoration.

The USS Kidd is at Thoma-Sea Marine to undergo its first major overhaul since 1962.

The 500-foot Fletcher-class destroyer saw action in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.

The ship has been a Baton Rouge tourist attraction for more than 40 years, resting in a cradle that damaged the hull.

The USS Kidd was moved to Houma three months ago. The restoration project is expected to take another five months.
