After a lull in activity following Hurricane Beryl, the National Hurricane Center will be watching tropical waters over the coming week.
"An area of disturbed weather over the central tropical Atlantic Ocean is expected to interact with an approaching tropical wave during the next several days," wrote NHC forecaster Robbie Berg in a 7-day outlook posted Friday afternoon. "Some development of this system will be possible while it approaches the Lesser Antilles during the early to middle part of next week and moves generally west-northwestward near the Greater Antilles toward the latter part of the week."
There is no immediate threat to Louisiana or the northern Gulf Coast.
Forecasters have called for a well above-average hurricane season, with the combination of record-warm Atlantic waters and the emergence of La Niña in the Pacific expected to help fuel tropical development.
The season ends November 30.
