The former warden of the Tangipahoa Parish jail is in a lower-paying position as a result of escapes on his watch.
The sheriff transferred Major Heath Martin out of the jail after four inmates escaped in May. One of them is still at large.
Martin was then demoted from major to captain, which involved a pay cut. He now oversees the parish's school resource officers.
Martin was in charge of the jail from April 2019 until last month. During that time, eight inmates escaped, one was released by accident, and one escaped from a medical facility.
