The departure of Congressman Garret Graves from Capitol Hill will affect two major House committees.
The Republican isn't running for reelection this fall, ever since his district was redrawn by state legislators who were required to create a second majority-black district which favors Democratic candidates.
Graves serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Natural Resources Committee. Neither committee has many members from Gulf Coast states, so Louisiana's interests may suffer.
