NHC Highlights Possible Tropical Development Off Southeast U.S. Coast

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center are highlighting an area off the U.S. southeast coast for possible tropical development later this week.

"A trough of low pressure over the eastern Gulf of Mexico is producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms," said the NHC Tuesday morning. "This system is expected to move northeastward across Florida during the next day or so and offshore of the U.S. Southeast coast later this week."

The update notes conditions are expected to be "generally unfavorable" for development over Atlantic waters.

"Regardless of development, heavy rainfall is expected across portions of Florida during the next few days," the NHC said.

There are no current threats to Louisiana. The 2024 hurricane season ends in November.
