The Louisiana State Treasury is sending out nearly 28,000 unclaimed property checks this month worth more than $5 million.

State Treasurer John Fleming announced Tuesday that the checks will be mailed June 13 and will go to residents of every parish in the state.

Unclaimed property includes paychecks, old bank account balances, royalties, utility deposits, interest, stock certificates, and life insurance proceeds.

Fleming says there's more than a billion-dollars in unclaimed property belonging to Louisiana citizens.
