A federal court says the state legislature has until January 15 to draw new congressional maps that feature two majority-black districts.

Republican Gov.-elect Jeff Landry says he'll call a special redistricting session after he's sworn in on January 8.

A spokesperson for Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards says state law requires seven-days' notice before a special session is called.

Edwards applauded the ruling by the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, but didn't say whether he plans to call a special session before the end of his term.
