The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board is proceeding with a plan to hire more armed school resource officers in the upcoming school year.
Security Director Robert McGarner initially proposed hiring a couple of dozen unarmed school safety officers who wouldn't make arrests and wouldn't need a law enforcement background.
The board voted down that plan on Tuesday and instead approved a job description to hired more armed officers.
McGarner expressed his disagreement prior to the vote.
