Tropical Storm Delta continued to show signs of possible rapid intensification Monday afternoon.
The National Hurricane Center warned Delta could be at major hurricane strength with max winds of 120 miles per hour in 36 hours.
After entering the Gulf of Mexico as a category 3 hurricane on Wednesday, Delta could see some slight weakening to category 2 strength after encountering wind shear and cooler waters over the northern Gulf.
"Although there is still significant uncertainty regarding Delta's intensity when it nears the northern Gulf coast, it is becoming increasing likely that the system will pose a significant wind and storm surge threat to a portion of that area," said the NHC.
Meanwhile, Gamma has weakened to a tropical depression and is expected to become a post-tropical remnant low over the Yucatan peninsula and will not impact the Gulf Coast.
