The National Hurricane Center continues to keep a close eye on an area of disturbed weather in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico.
Forecasters said shower and thunderstorm activity associated with the area of low pressure just off the eastern coast of Mexico showed little change, and conditions could allow for a tropical depression or tropical storm forming.
Whatever develops, the NHC says it's not expected to be in any hurry. "The low is expected to meander over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico before moving slowly northward to northeastward on Friday and Saturday," read a tropical weather outlook.
The system could be Wilfred, which is the final name on the 2020 list. Any subsequent storms would be named after letters of the Greek alphabet.
