A local group of protesters are calling for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office to equip deputies with body cameras.
BR for the People, which has organized protests on Siegen Lane, has demanded the use of body cameras in East Baton Rouge as it is one of the few police forces who has yet to do so.
A spokeswoman for the agency says that Sheriff Sid Gautreaux does foresee utilizing the cameras in the future, adding that the department is consulting with BRPD and the State Police on how to manage the costs associated with storing the video footage.
Of the 12 parishes in the surrounding region, only the sheriff's offices for Assumption, St. Helena and St. James utilize body cameras.
