Deputies who were on duty when a parish prison inmate escaped while in custody have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the incident.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's office says 20-year-old Cecil Williams escaped for several hours Sunday from Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.
He was taken to the hospital after complaining he couldn't breathe.
Williams was under arrest for attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and kidnapping.
Sheriff Sid Gautreaux says they're reviewing prison policies to determine how he escaped.
