Several Mumps Virus Cases Reported Among Students At LSU

Health officials are confirming five cases of the mumps have been reported at LSU.

The University's Health Center said yesterday that all of the students who have shown symptoms of the virus live off-campus.

Doctors are urging students, faculty, and staff at the university to make sure they are up to date on their Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccinations, which is also known as the MMR shot.

The mumps vaccine is 90% effective in stopping the spread of the highly contagious virus, which causes swollen glands in the neck area and in the male reproductive system, which can lead to infertility.
