Baton Rouge Police Reassigns Officers To Combat Homicide Spike

The Baton Rouge Police Department are reassigning dozens of officers to help fight a surge in violent crime.

Mayor Sharon Weston Broome and BRPD Chief Murphy Paul released a joint statement yesterday saying 60 detectives will be reassigned to assist the Narcotics Section and the Street Crimes Unit to increase police presence in " areas of concern."

Twenty more officers will also be moved from specialized units to assist with proactive patrols in designated areas.

According to reports, three arrests have already been made in the 14 homicides that occurred this month.
