Tropical Storm Humberto No Threat To U.S.

Tropical Storm Humberto continued to crawl away from the Bahamas Saturday afternoon, towards an eventual hard right turn away from the United States by the end of the weekend.

Humberto was continuing to fight shear, and the National Hurricane Center said most of the strongest winds were confined to the north and east of the cyclone's center of circulation.

However, that shear is expected to weaken, and Humberto could strengthen into a hurricane by Sunday night as it moves over open waters.

The NHC is also watching what it calls a large area of cloudiness and showers over the eastern Gulf of Mexico. It's expected to head west across the Gulf with low chances of developing into a tropical cyclone before it moves inland late Monday or Tuesday.

Further out, a tropical wave could find favorable conditions for development as it moves across the tropical Atlantic. Forecasters say it could become a tropical depression by the middle of the week.
