After spending some time as a potential tropical cyclone, Tropical Depression Nine formed Friday afternoon near the Bahamas.
The National Hurricane Center expects it will slowly strengthen into Tropical Storm Humberto by Saturday afternoon, despite being in an area where there is moderate shear, and notes computer models are aggressive in developing the storm into a hurricane as it moves off the coast of Florida. The official NHC forecast puts the system at hurricane strength by Monday afternoon well away from land.
The official forecast cone has continued to shift eastward after the depression's weak center of circulation was found to be slightly east of previous estimates.
Tropical storm warnings remain in effect for parts of the Bahamas still recovering from Hurricane Dorian's rampage. A tropical storm watch is in effect for part of Florida's coast.
