Excessive Heat Warning In Effect Until 8pm Tonight

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning in southeast Louisiana through 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The warning area stretches from West Feliciana Parish eastward into Mississippi, and includes Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, Slidell, Mandeville and Bay St. Louis.

The NWS says highs are expected to reach the mid 90s with heat index values of 113.

"An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur," read the NWS alert. "The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors."

A heat advisory, covering almost all of southeast Louisiana, is also in effect through 7 p.m.

A break from the heat is possible Wednesday with rising rain chances.
