Flooding will be a major threat from Tropical Storm Barry.
The National Weather Service warned of life-threatening storm surge on the Louisiana coast.
In some areas, the storm surge could reach up to six feet.
Adding to the threat of flooding will be a downpour of rain.
Forecasters say Barry is moving slowly so heavy rain will be falling for a long time, with some places getting up to 25 inches in the next couple days.
Barry is expected to gain strength and turn into a hurricane late Friday or early Saturday.
Hurricane warnings have been issued for parts of the Louisiana coast.
