A powerful storm system in the Gulf of Mexico is being called a "potential tropical cyclone."
The National Hurricane Center started issuing advisories on the potential cyclone yesterday, which is forecast to become Tropical Storm Barry and possibly Hurricane Barry by this weekend.
Hurricane watches are already in effect in southern Louisiana, where tropical storm conditions and hurricane force winds are possible within 48 hours.
Storm-surge watches have also been issued for parts of Louisiana, where "life-threatening inundation" is possible.
The storm system was last reported about 120 miles southeast of New Orleans, and is expected to make landfall Saturday.
