LSU Study Links Blighted Properties, Homicides In Baton Rouge

LSU researchers are reporting a link between homicide, blighted property and convenience stores in the Baton Rouge area.

The study found that a quarter of all Baton Rouge homicides took place in an area that makes up about 3% of the city. Researchers discovered that homicides in the capital city are most likely to occur where there's a dense concentration of blighted buildings in close proximity to convenience stores.

The study is the first to show a correlation between the landscape, environment and crime in Baton Rouge.
