The East Baton Rouge Metro Council is changing the way a vacancy is filled on the panel.
Council members voted unanimously last night to give anyone a chance to fill a vacancy so long as they are at least 18, registered to vote and live in the appropriate district.
It's been long held that vacancies, like the one that occurred with the crash last year that killed Councilman Buddy Amoroso, would be filled by a spouse or other family members of former council members.
Amoroso's wife, Denise, took over his position following his death. She'll seek to keep the seat in the upcoming election.
