New grant funding will be used to reduce the death toll connected to the opioid crisis.
The East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney's Office says $360,000 was awarded in October and extends through September of 2020. This follows overdose deaths more than doubling from 2010 to 2016.
Officials want to hire a coordinator to oversee the project, which would include compiling more data to better determine where and how drugs are being distributed.
