Grant Funds Aim To Reduce Opioid Death Toll In EBR

New grant funding will be used to reduce the death toll connected to the opioid crisis.

The East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney's Office says $360,000 was awarded in October and extends through September of 2020. This follows overdose deaths more than doubling from 2010 to 2016.

Officials want to hire a coordinator to oversee the project, which would include compiling more data to better determine where and how drugs are being distributed.
