Tropical Depression Three Forms Off East Coast

As expected, a tropical depression formed off the East Coast of the Carolinas Friday and the system could become the third named storm of the 2018 season, Chris, on Saturday.

With not much in the way of steering currents over the next few days, the storm could meander for a bit before moving away from the U.S. by the middle of the week, possibly reaching hurricane status well away from land.

"Most of the guidance suggests that the tropical-storm-force winds associated with the cyclone will occur in the eastern quadrant well away from the U.S. coast.  On this basis, no watches or warnings are required for the U.S coast at this time, however, interests along the North Carolina coast should monitor the progress of this system," read the initial advisory from the National Hurricane Center on TD #3.
