St. Tammany Deputies Cleared Of Wrongdoing

Seven St. Tammany Parish sheriff's deputies are in the clear after a federal court jury found them not guilty in a civil rights lawsuit brought by an inmate.

Ronald Matthews had claimed that he had been denied his constitutional rights when he was allegedly attacked on two separate occasions in August 2016 and then denied medical attention.

In a news release Thursday, the sheriff's office says jurors heard from 16 witnesses before their deliberations and subsequent verdict in the case.
