Keeping An Eye On The Eastern Gulf

The National Hurricane Center continues to keep a close watch on a large area of clouds, showers and storms in the eastern Gulf for further signs of development.

As of Monday morning, the chances of that happening are 40% over the next five days.

"This system could acquire some subtropical or tropical characteristics while it moves slowly northward across the eastern Gulf of Mexico during the next few days," read the special tropical weather outlook. "Regardless of subtropical or tropical cyclone formation, this system will enhance rainfall across portions of Florida and the northeastern Gulf Coast during the next few days."

With southeast Louisiana on the western side of the system, any impacts look to be minimal at this time.

The 2018 Atlantic hurricane season begins on June 1.
