The Port of New Orleans is one of dozens that are back in business thanks to a tentative strike settlement.

About 45,000 members of the International Longshoremen's Association, including around 700 in New Orleans, hit the picket lines early Tuesday morning.

The strike resulted from a contract dispute with the United States Maritime Association.

The two sides have agreed to extend the expired contract until January 15.

The strike had led to uncertainty about the movement of goods ahead of the holiday season.
