A new trial date is scheduled for Cardell Hayes, who was once convicted of killing former New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith.

In a court hearing on Monday, the judge set the retrial date at September 18th.

An Orleans Parish jury found Hayes guilty in December 2016 of manslaughter and attempted manslaughter for killing Smith and wounding his wife.

It was a 10-2 verdict, and the U.S. Supreme Court later vacated it because it wasn't unanimous.

The high court ruled non-unanimous criminal verdicts unconstitutional.
