Plaquemine Police Chief Kenny Payne's resignation is part of a plea deal involving two of five criminal charges he faced.

Prosecutors say Payne pleaded no contest on Monday to two counts of malfeasance in office.

Payne admitted to asking a woman for sex in exchange for dismissing charges against her boyfriend.

He also admitted he asked the sheriff to cover up an investigation into the claims against him.

Payne received a three-year suspended sentence for each count, and his resignation followed on Monday.
