Dorian Falls To Category 2 Intensity Tuesday Morning

Hurricane Dorian was no longer a "major" hurricane as of Tuesday morning. Its maximum winds were down to 110 miles per hour, making it a category 2 storm.

Dorian continued to slowly move northwestward at 2 miles per hour and a slightly faster motion is expected by later today and tonight.

The National Hurricane Center warns Dorian will still move "dangerously" close to the east coast of Florida and also come "very near" the coasts of Georgia and the Carolinas through the remainder of the week.

"Although the official forecast does not show Dorian making landfall along the Florida east coast, the increasing size of Dorian's wind field along with any deviation to the left of the forecast track will bring hurricane-force winds onshore along portions of the Florida east coast," read the NHC forecaster discussion that accompanied the 10 a.m. advisory.
