Tropics Very Active As September Begins

As Hurricane Dorian pounds the Bahamas and inches closer to the east coast of Florida, forecasters at the National Hurricane Center are watching four other areas of interest as we enter the peak of hurricane season.

The system with the greatest chance of development was located about 300 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands Monday morning. A tropical depression is expected to form during the next day or so while the wave moves northwestward.

An broad area of low pressure in the south-central Gulf of Mexico could form a tropical depression as it moves towards the coast of Mexico over the coming days. It is not a threat for Louisiana.

Near Bermuda, the NHC says a trough of low pressure and its associated showers and storms show signs of organization, it does not yet have a well-defined surface center.

Finally, a tropical wave is expected to enter the far eastern tropical Atlantic in the next few days. Slow development is possible as it moves west to west-northwestward late this week and into the weekend.
