Governor Notes Impact Of Government Shutdown On Flood Policies

Governor John Bel Edwards is expressing concern over the stranglehold that the partial shutdown of the federal government is placing on the purchase or renewal of flood insurance policies.

He said in a news release issued by his office yesterday that more than a half-million Louisiana residents depend on coverage from the National Flood Insurance Program, with an estimated 40,000 policies up for renewal each month.

Edwards is urging Washington to resolve the shutdown, noting it's having "real life consequences" at a time when Louisiana is being pounded by torrential downpours and flooding.
