Baton Rouge Man Doesn't Like Sentence For Shooting, Paralyzing Girlfriend

A Baton Rouge man wants a reduced sentence for shooting his then-girlfriend six times in the bathtub leaving her paralyzed from the chest down.

The February 2017 violent domestic assault sparked by an argument over a nasal aspirator being used on a child of theirs left 48-year-old Carl Thompson, II convicted of attempted second-degree murder.

The Advocate says his attorney has filed a motion for a reduction of the 45-year prison sentence he received last week alleging it amounts to cruel and unusual punishment.

The district attorney termed the punishment doled out "totally appropriate."
